The GBC Ladies Association on Thursday, 11th May 2023, held a pre-celebration of Mother’s Day themed: “The Law of Intestacy in Ghana – The Place of Women and Children”.
In his welcome address, the Director of Human Resource, Mr. John O. Korasare, stated that the purpose of the event was to applaud and appreciate all mothers and mother figures for their dedication and commitment.
The celebration was marked with a drama, followed by a discussion on Intestate Succession. In attendance were many distinguished guests including Hon. Diana Asonaba Dapaah (The Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice), Mrs. Efua Ghartey (Lawyer, Ghartey and Ghartey and a GBC Board Member) who led the discussion on the theme and Madam Joyce Rosalyn Aryee (Founder and Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries), who was the chairperson for the event.
Madam Gloria Laryea, President of the GBC Ladies Association, in her speech to kick start the discussion, said the reason for the theme was to sensitize women on what it meant for a spouse to die intestate and the rights of the living spouse and children. This, she said, were based on PNDC Law 111.
Women and men were encouraged to get further knowledge and understanding of the Law.
The event was also graced with the presence of members of the GBC Ladies Association, Queen Mothers from the Ga-Dangbe Community, representatives from other Ladies Associations (Ghana Water Company, Volta River Authority, Tema Oil Refinery etc.), GASPBROAD, Management and staff of GBC.
The celebration was crowned with a donation of products to the GBC Ladies Association by the Akosombo Branch of the Volta River Authority to mark Mother’s Day.
